Magellan Verlag

The Publishing House and its History

Magellan is a non-corporate company specializing in the publication of books for children and adolescents. Our aim is to present our readers with a new, innovative and irresistible style of book. We offer challenging works, which set us apart from the mainstream, optically as well as haptically. We launched our first titles in the autumn of 2014 – for all readers from 2 to 18.

Keynote Orientation

Our passion is for topics drawn from life for all ages to enjoy. Our aim is to speak to children and adolescents at their own level of language and experience. Exciting roadtrips, unusual family constellations, adventures great and small, fates that evoke empathy and everyday madness – our authors tell stories grounded in reality, but very special all the same. We challenge our readers and are confident that they will be able to deal with serious topics such as dementia, life on the streets or flight and displacement. At the same time, we use bizarre humour, extraordinary illustrations and eccentric characters to distinguish our style from the norm.

All this is guaranteed by a team of experienced and »brand new« authors and illustrators. We focus on German writers. Together, we develop innovative ideas and concepts, think in new directions and tackle topics as yet uncharted in the world of books for children and adolescents.

Sustainable and environmental friendly: Since our foundation, these maxims have been the main pillars of our green publishing philosophy. They form our label "Naturally Magellan", with which we stand for a mindful approach to our nature. With our nature-conscious thinking, we want to set specific impulses in the book industry and beyond. Our green publishing philosophy includes:

  • Production in Germany and, in exceptional cases, in nearby European countries
  • no use of plastic
  • plant oil-based inks and water-based printing varnishes
  • Glue without solvents
  • FSC®-certified paper from responsible sources
  • Membership of FSC®-Germany
  • Oeko-Tex® standard
  • Precise calculation of advertising material and the number of copies of books
  • Active protection of nature and species
